Unveiling the Benefits: Microdosing with Psilocybin for Athletes

If you’re an athlete, I would bet you have explored various methods and techniques to optimize performance on the field or in the gym. Being an athlete my entire life, I know this is true! 

Maybe you’ve tried BCA’s, pre-workouts, and other various supplements. But have you ever heard of microdosing with psilocybin for improved athletic performance? 

I wanted to share some of the benefits I’ve encountered from microdosing with psilocybin these past few years and how I believe it’s had an impact on my gym gains and overall performance. 

What is microdosing with psilocybin?

First things first, let's clarify what microdosing with psilocybin entails. Microdosing involves the consumption of sub-perceptual doses of psilocybin, typically every few days. Sub-perceptual means the dose is too low to produce hallucinogenic effects but still provides subtle benefits on a cellular level.

Enhanced focus and mental clarity

One of the potential benefits reported by individuals who microdose (and one I saw most noticeably in myself from microdosing with psilocybin) was improved focus and mental clarity. Athletes often face mental challenges, as we know, such as lack of focus or distractions during training or competitions. Microdosing may help with enhancing attention, allowing athletes to be fully present, and perform at their best.

Athletes face physical and mental stress as they push their limits on the daily. Microdosing with psilocybin has been reported to boost mood and reduce anxiety and stress. This could potentially help athletes manage pre-competition nerves and recover from intense workouts more effectively. I often felt less sore after workouts and more energized the day after administering my microdose, even if I had a particularly intense training session that day. 

Enhanced creativity and problem-solving

Engaging in sports requires creative problem-solving skills, adaptability, and the ability to think outside the box. Microdosing has been associated with increased creativity and improved cognitive flexibility. This could positively impact an athlete's ability to strategize, analyze game situations, and find innovative ways to approach their sport.

Heightened connection and mindfulness

Athletes often seek a deeper connection between mind and body to optimize performance. Microdosing with psilocybin may promote a heightened sense of mindfulness and an increased awareness of bodily sensations. I specifically resonate with this! During my workouts, particularly my strength workouts, I felt I was able to tune into my body on a deeper level. This led me to believe there was an enhancing effect between the mind-body connection.

Promoting neuroplasticity and brain health

This one is big! Microdosing has been linked to the promotion of neuroplasticity, which refers to the brain's ability to adapt and form new neural connections. This could have implications for learning new skills, retaining information, and improving coordination, all of which are essential for athletes to excel in their respective sports, think Bradley Cooper in Limitless

It's crucial to note that the current scientific evidence on the benefits of microdosing with psilocybin is still limited, and more research is needed to fully understand its effects.
