7 Habits to Practice Regularly to Encourage You to Stay Grounded
You may be In a state of discomfort because old ways of being no longer serve a purpose in your life.
A new version of you is being called to emerge RIGHT NOW.
Things are falling apart to rebuild foundations that were rocky, to begin with.
The world is on fire and it feels unsettling.
I keep reminding myself that this current state of discomfort (on a micro and macro level) is happening for a greater purpose.
I’m viewing that discomfort as a clue of where I need to put my attention and I’m leaning into it while making sure I prioritize my mental health (because we can’t pour from an empty cup).
Here are seven habits I’m practicing on a weekly basis to stay grounded:
1. Meditation
Even if it’s 1-5 minutes, having the intention to stop what you are doing and quiet the mind helps. If you are only doing one minute right now, build on that weekly by week by adding one more minute. You can also use guided meditations. I like the apps Calm and Headspace.
2. Writing or journaling
Once it’s physically out on paper, you’ll have an easier time walking away from it. Write it down and release it. The let it go. Not sure where to start? Start with 1-2 sentences of a daily gratitude journal.
3. Taking regular breaks from the news/social media
I can’t stress this enough- especially right now. Taking breaks from the news and social media is imperative to sustain a healthy mind. Put it in your calendar if you need to. Turn off so you can tune in.
4. Practicing deep belly breathing
I really like deep belly breathing to help ground myself. My go-to? Whim Hoff. Check out a video of his HERE.
5. Speaking to loved ones and friends on the regular
This one is pretty obvious but making the time to connect with loved ones over facetime really helps with keeping us happy and grounded. Make the time to speak to the people you love at least 3x a week.
6. Being outside in nature
Connecting to nature and turning off our phones and computers once in a while is so important. Go hiking, walk the dog, practice earthing, disconnect, and take in the natural beauties and wonders of the world around you.
7. Being physically active
Sure workouts are great but anything that gets you sweating and gets your mind off of your 9-5 is beneficial physically as well as mentally. When we get the heart rate up, we get the blood flowing through our body and rest our minds mentally. Whether it's a workout, walk, hike, jog, get outside and get moving.
The world needs you now more than ever so please take the time to prioritize yourself; mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
