The Only Hack You’ll Ever Need for Afternoon Energy Slumps
Are you ready for this one?...Track your nutrition!
I know this isn’t popular advice depending on the audience. It’s thought of as diet culture to track what you’re eating and viewed primarily as information to modify in order to lose weight. Or it’s thought of as only useful to bodybuilders and other athletes that measure everything they put into their bodies as an aspect of training for their sport.
But you can relate to absolutely none of the above and care to track your nutrition in order to identify where your energy levels dip (for a lot of people it’s midafternoon) and unlock your body’s ability to regulate more comfortably and consistently through food choices.
It’s entirely possible that something like a high protein snack mid morning would change how you feel all day and even impact your sleep cycles.
That is worth learning about yourself. It’s an increase in quality of life. And it doesn’t have to be about extremes or self hatred or overhauling your whole life or sports. And it can be about a myriad of benefits and desired outcomes you have when it comes to your individual relationship with your body.
Oftentimes my clients will track only for a few weeks to better understand their habits, energy levels and wants. And from there we make adjustments that make sense for their desired outcomes.
The top benefits that people see when they track their nutrition is:
Improved digestive health
Improved mood and mental health
Identifying unknown food sensitivities
Less reliance on caffeine
Less mental load around meals
Nutrition is a foundational tool for overall well being that can be approached in a variety of nuanced ways. I love working with clients to shift their relationships to their own nourishment in ways that suit them. It’s not one size fits all, and the benefits are dramatic. If you need help on your own nutrition journey, reach out to me. I’d love to hear from you.
