5 Simple Habits That Will Change Your Life
I’m not up for conceding that we are all destined to wake up feeling like sh*t everyday. I’m not into joking about it. And it’s not that I don’t have incredible empathy for that feeling, I know it well. Rather, I believe so wholeheartedly in our human capacity for more that I’m not willing to give up on me or you or any of us. Even when things feel heavy.
In short, that is what overall wellness is. Our likelihood to wake up each day with our max capacity for joy, wonder, and feeling in tact. And it doesn’t come from powders or biohacks or quick tricks. It lies in commitment to the everyday details that most impact our minds, bodies and spirits.
If you were to throw everything you’ve ever thought about wellness out of the window and you wanted to start working toward feeling your best, I would have you start here.
1. Staying hydrated
As a starting point I wouldn’t concern myself with the amount of ozs but rather getting in the habit of reaching for water throughout the day.
2. Eating protein and produce
Eating whole foods like fruits and vegetables, along with lean meats will make you look and feel better. Try one of my favorite recipes tonight!
3. Getting enough sleep
The amount of sleep the average adult should be aiming for in a given night is between 7–8 hours.
4. Consistent strength training
Strength training is an incredible way to lose weight, build muscle, reduce the risk of injury and improve posture.
5. Meditation
The goal of meditation is to bring awareness to the present moment, while also realizing that you are not your thoughts.
It’s not a sexy as a biohack or “one cool trick” and the outcomes are immeasurably better. When I tend to the simple things consistently, I am the version of myself I most want to be. Or at least as close as is available each day. I have a rhythm I can expect that always hums in the background– moving me always forward.
And it’s all a part of how I approach my work with clients. With individual care for their differing needs and circumstances, but looking to help them reach a place where they ways they want to care for themselves become the hum in the background all the time. The consistent repetitions that soothe the hard parts. The heartbeat that keeps everything else in line.
And hell yes we can biohack and experiment with the edges from there. But if you’re looking to change your life and your relationship to your overall wellbeing– these are the 5 habits that will change everything.
